Bible was developed to show how to put into practice what we have learn.  Applied God’s word is a vital point of human and God, is a testimony that we obeyed him.  The difficult in applied the Bible is not with the Bible itself, but with reader, inability to bridge the gap between the past and present, the conceptual and practical.  When we don’t or can’t do these, spiritual dryness and in difference are the result.

INTRODUCTION TO THE PENTATEUCH
WHAT IS PENTATEUCH

This was the 1st five books in the Bible and it was called “SEPTER HATTORAH”.  This means the book of law also called “TORAH”.  This means the law.

This book was divided into five because of the event in it.  This book was regarded in Israel because of author “MOSES’.  Because they believe that he is great more than any Prophet because he spoke with God openly.  This is how Bible was divided in the BIBLE:

1.               The Law
2.               The Prophet
3.               The Written

But later on it was developed in another forms.

THE AUTHORSHIP OF THE BOOK (PENTATEUCH)

There is a lot of problem about the author of Pentateuch, and the scholar has a lot of controversies about the author of the book called Pentateuch.  Geam Astruc is the one that first accused Pentateuch and this man is one of the Roman Catholic Bishop, but well – hasten is the theologian that defend Pentateuch; he find many answer to the questions raise by (Gean Astruc). J.E.P.D – means the Pentateuchal problem.

POINTS OF QUESTION

We can see many question  like:
When there is no man, no Adam and Eve, No Abraham.  How did Moses came across  their story?  How can He be the author of Pentateuch?  How did Moses come across the story of Jacob and Esau and the time of flood?  After the death of Moses, the events that took place.  How did Moses come across it?  But well hasten find the answer to prove that Moses is the author of Pentateuch.

J.E.P.D. Pentateuchal problem

J – Jehovaniet
E – Elomist
P – Priestly
D – Deuteronomic

Gen 2:8 – How can God come down and plant a garden?
Gen 11:5 – How can God come down and see the tower?
Gen 18:21 – How can God eat?
Gen 7:16 – How can God shut up the window?
Gen 6:1 – 3 – God shown itself?

People said Pentateuch are books of history only especially Genesis, they said Moses re-copy it in the code of Amorabii, that contain the story of creation but these are the fact we known in the book of Genesis.

THREE THINGS TO FIND IN GENESIS

1.                   The world was created.
2.                   Man was made in image of God
3.                   Man fell at one point at a time, so these 3 things was established that it is truly God’s i.e. (Genesis)

ELECTION

Election is a God’s special choice of an individual for his specifying purpose.  So when God call he would specifying the call, and he would tell the area that he want the person to work.  God call Abraham and being called by God is not the end of his work, so the call of God is a progressive one and God reveal his purpose progressively.

God call Abraham as an individual and from that to family, and from family to the group of people and from that to a nation, also from nation to the entire world.  When God call, there are two things that follows i.e. two subsidiary

1.           The Promise
2.           The Responsibility

THE PROMISED OF GOD TO ABRAHAM

1.             That his descendant would be as a countless as the starts of heaven.
2.             That his children would be as countless as the sand of the sea.
3.             That the land of cannan would be given to him and his descendant.
4.             Great reign.

THE RESPONSIBILITY

Promised don’t come without responsibilities i.e. when God called the person been called will have responsibilities to do in order to make the promise of God to be fulfill.  There is no blessing without responsibility, when Abraham was chosen it implies that there are responsibility.  God’s promise for Abraham were not for selfish enjoyment, but they were to be use for responsibility, so that others might share in the benefit.

God wanted to reach the needy people of the world through Israel the nation that comes from Abraham.

COVENANT

In Hebrew language the covenant is called “BERITH” and BERITH – means covenant of the Lord, while in Greek is been called ‘”DIATEKE” (Si&cnkn) and Diateke means Testament.

KINDS OF COVENANT

1.        HEZED:   Hezed means covenant of love
2.        TUBAH:   Covenant of goodness of fellowship
3.        SALAM:   Means covenant of peace or covenantal prosperity.
4.        YADAH:   Means to serve faithfully in accordance with the covenant.
5.       KARAT BERITH:   This means to cut the covenant (we don’t made the covenant but we cut the covenant or to enter into covenant with someone) (I Sam 20:8) Berith  is a supper covenant in the Israel (Josh 9:1 – 17; 18:19, Josh 10:1 – 8)

The suzerite would take a step or he will initiate that what he want is this a berith i.e. the covenant of God.  The suzerite must ready to give assistance to vassal when even they need.

DIFFERENT KINDS OF COVENANT IN THE BIBLE
EDENIC COVENANT

This is a kind of covenant that God has cult between Adam and Eve (Gen 1:21 – 29).   Adam was given headship over the creation.  The 8th psalm indicate these include all creation; He formed man from the dust of the ground and breath unto the nostril the breath of life (Hebrew Bible – Lifes) and man become a living soul (gen. 2:7)

Into the vessel of the day out the clay God breath physical life, spiritual life and soul life.  The new head of creation was related immediately to that creation.  We must consider the edenic covenant also in the light of God’s plan made in eternity before the creation of the world, for we have our redemption through the shedded blood of Jesus, who was first ordained before the creation of the world, but was manifested in this last day for you, who by him do believe in God (I Pet 1:20 – 21).

ADAMIC COVENANT

The covenant of death that God cut with man, the Adamic covenant was found in the chapter 3 of Genesis.  It comes as a result of the fall of the race in the person of Adam & Eve.   (Gen 3:1 – 6) it was cut the day man falleth (Gen 3:8).  Adam and his wife both disobeyed God; in the one and only prohibition of the edenic covenant, this action reveal the immediate change in their lives to a state of distress and shame, and of misconception about God.

NOAHIC COVENANT

This is the type of covenant that God cut with man, to be eating animal or flesh, Godf promised that her would never destroy the world by the flood (Gen 9:11).  He now ordained the eating of meat (Gen 9:3 – 4) and he gave warning of shelding man’s blood “who so ever shedeth blood by man shall be shedeth his own blood for in the image of God made he man (Gen 9:6).  The Noahic was an act of mercy in the midst of judgment, the judgment of the flood firmly establish the fact that God had not abandon the world, despite Adam’s fall; what every the requirement, of blessing or of judgment, He fulfilled.  The judgment affected all mankind as well as the final judgment and so far shadow the second coming of Christ (Matt 24:37 – 44; II Pet 3; I Thess 5:1 – 4; II Thess 1:7 – 10).

ABRAHAMIC COVENANT

The covenant of blessing or greatness, this is the openly of this covenant “In thee shall all the family of the earth blessed” made more specific in God’s final word to Abraham on mount Moreah, ‘by myself says the Lord, for you have done these things and as not with head they son, they only son, that in bless I will bless thee; and in they seed shall all nation be bless, because thou have obeyed my voice (Gen 22:16 – 18).  The intent of these promise is nothing less than the plan of God to Salvation in Christ – the promised seed (Gen 3:15).  “In thee; Abraham to enjoy his faith and all the blessing of God accomplice that faith, not only those listed in Genesis 12:1 – 3, but all these promised and exemplified in Abrahamic, but all must be and is in the Christ the seed; for Abraham’s faith and its blessing were depends upon the work of the promised seed, Jesus Christ.

SINAIC OR MOSAIC COVENANT

The mosaic covenant is an essential step in progressive revelation of God’s plan for the redemption of mankind.  It is formed in the Pentateuch the first five books in the Bible, anticipated in Genesis presented in Exodus, Leviticus, Number and Deuteronomy.  It is an involved typological fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenants, not it ultimate.  As Isaac was the covenant seed of Abraham rather than Ismael. Gen 17 & 21:7 – 12.

DAVIDIC OR PALESTINIAN COVENANT

This covenant was made about 1,040 – 1,000 B.C. through Nathan the Prophet with David the son of Jesse.  David was king of Israel by God choice and purpose, he was a man after God’s own hearth, clean from the self will and stubbornness and jealous of king Saul.  He was not perfect, but he use to returned to God with all his heart, when he has sinned.  The Davidic covenant will require a close look at a record and history book (II Sam 7: I Cro 17) and also in Psalm and Prophets and Christ’s and the apostle’s usage.  Its typological fulfillment was found in kings and chronicle which may also be useful in our study.

NEW TESTAMENT (COVENANT)

The old testament is abundant witness that its in complete.  It must be completed by the final covenant called “NEW TESTMENT” OR COVENANT.  Which must come by a promised redeemer, Christ; God would put his words into his mouth and the promise of mediator would declare this will of God.  So the New Testament would be completed, so then the word of God would be completed Jeremiah, Moses and Daniel shows that the old testament must put aside, as the new testament has manifested through the death of Christ; compare Jer. 31:34; Daniel 9:26 – 27a.  “Whosoever rejected the word of Christ and the New Testament would be cut of among the God’s people Acts 3:22 – 23; Deut 18:18 – 19.

A COUNTRY THAT HAVE FULL FLEDGE POWER

A country will full fledge power must have these following:

1.                          They must have population
2.                          They must have Independent
3.                          They must have Constitution
4.                          They must have Land
5.                          They must have Leadership
6.                          They must have sovereignty (freedom of government)

These 6 things must be completed before a country is been completed.  Hinth Theocracy is the government ruling by God.

Monarchy is the government ruling man.  Severenty is the power to become a state.

GENESIS

Genesis was the one part of Bible of Hebrew called Torah or Law, when the Greek translation by Septuagent.  (When the Greek translation of the work finished in the time of Septuagist of Alexander) in 280 B.C. the books of the law was then be divided, then Genesis is one part.  This division happens in the time of first translation.

The book of Genesis is an epic/drama on a ground scale, at the beginning it began with God who is the beginning of every thing.

GENESISI ETYMOLOGY

Genesis is from the Greek word means origin, and Hebrew word is Beresit which interpret in the beginning of every thing; such as:

1.                      The beginning of the world which God created
2.                      The beginning of the world which Man
3.                      The beginning of the world which Marriage
4.                      The beginning of the world which Sin
5.                      The beginning of the world which Sacrifice
6.                      The beginning of the world which Arts
7.                      The beginning of the world which Nation
8.                      The beginning of the world which Language
9.                      The beginning of the world which Condemnation
10.                   The beginning of the world which Redemption
11.                   The beginning of the world which Music
12.                   The beginning of the world which Curse
13.                   The beginning of the world which Death
14.                   The beginning of the world which Blessing
15.                   The beginning of the world which Covenant

PURPOSE OF GENESIS

The purpose of genesis is to write the religions history and the purpose of history is to show how man fell and after man has fallen, how God show his plan for many to get out of sinful state.

GENESIS PROLOGUE

The account of the study of Genesis by some brought some confession, they complain that the book have duplicate in some of the fact they pointed to include the following:

1.                      The flood
2.                      The creation of Man

THE FLOOD

There are two types of the flood in the Bible.  Gen. 1:2 reported that the surface of the earth was full of water and without form, which means that there might be flood.  The second flood/was recorded in Genesis chapter 6 during the time of Noah, so some scholar reported that this record is like duplication, hence the book was doubted.

THE CREATION OF MAN

It was also argue that the account of the creation of man as it was recorded in Genesis is confusing.  In  Gen 1:27.  It was recorded that God made man and woman, while in Gen:18 is the account that God made a woman was written, which means that God has created man before woman.

INSIGHT OR SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS

To understand this argument one need to understand another one’s language i.e. to understand the Bible we must understand the way.  Hebrews do write story.  About the flood it is not a duplication it is a timeless time in Gen 1:2, i.e. man has never exist.  The incident of Gen 1:2 and Gen. 6 are not the same, in Genesis chapter 6 man has being and they sin before the flood came and destroy them.  And the case of creation, this was the prologue, which means summary of the whole story.

HINTS/POINTS
HOW TO SUPPORT THE AUTHOR

Jesus refer to the author of Pentateuch as Moses, in 280 B.C. the book was divided into 5 volume, it is one scroll before i.e. Jesus refer to it as one book of law of Moses

Hebrew has the way they used to write history, they would informing each other about the recent event from one generation to generation.

When Moses was on the mountain, the scholars believe that, it is there that God reveal many things about the past, present and future to Moses especially about the accent days.

The scholar believe that Moses did not write in the code of Amorabic.  Moses transfer his garment of power i.e. anointing unto Joshua before his death in the book of Deuteronomy and that make Joshua to finish the work then.  There are two symbol that cause problem in the book of Genesis that the problem are yet to solve up till now.

1.                    Serpent
2.                    The fruit of good and bad
i.e. can serpent talk?
Which serpent that was committed
Is it only one serpent that God made?
The fruits of good and bad is what?

GENESIS PROPER

Gen 1:1 The new international version says in the beginning God created the heavens and earth, while the king James says God created the heaven and the earth.  There is a word in Greek called Shammatin it means the pluralisation word in the Bible.

According to the geographer they said that Galaxy is like the magnet, anything that reach there would stay there like moon and sun e.t.c.  This galaxy breaks the law of gravity i.e. the law says anything that goes on the atmosphere would come back.  But in galaxy haven it would not come back.  Then verse 2 said “and the earth was without form and void” which means there is something’s happens that make it void and wasted. i.e. the earth was disorderliness.  God doesn’t started from imperfect to the perfect for God make everything perfectly.  “AND” this link verse 1 and 2 together. ‘DARKNESS” was upon the surface of the deep.

GAP THEORY

Theory is just a premise, not practical, not in action, but it is truth.  When God created haven and earth there was a being that God put in charge of it, this being challenge the authority of God and wanted to go to the throne or overthrone Him it engage God in a battle, but God won the battle in a real sense of it, and the being was dethrone as it is writing in the book of Jude Chapter 6.  The account of confrontation and the attendants of the result was recorded in Isaiah 14:12 – 15, this shows that Lucifer fall from heaven.

                                                   HEAVEN

                                                   EARTH

Lucifer was caste down into the bottom spit with 1/3 of the Angels (they are now call demon)

SIX DAY’S CREATION

1.         Gen. 1:3 – 5 God created the light in the first day and the light means civilization the light of the son of God e.t.c and God divided the light and darkness.  Without the light, God will not do anything and without light God is not ready to work.

2.         Gen 1:6 – 8 God separated the water under the firmament and the water on the firmament and it was so, and God call the firmament heaven the evening and morning were second day.

3.         Gen 1:9 – 13 God said let the water under the firmament (heaven) gather together into one place and let the dry land appear and gathered water was call the sea, and it was good.  God said “let the land bringeth forth grasses and the herbs yielding seed and fruit, the tree yielding fruits after his kind and it was so,” and God saw that it was good evening and morning were third day.

4.         Gen 1:14 – 19 God said let there be light in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and God said that t he greater light should rule the day and lesser light to rule the night and he also made the stars and it was good, evening and morning were forth day.

5.         Gen 1:20 – 23 God said let the water bringeth forth abundantly the living creature that hath life and the fowls may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven and God blessed them to be fruitful and multiply evening and morning were fifth day.

6.         Gen 1:24 – 31 The creation of the living creatures that hath life after his own kind like beast e.t.c.  God said let us make man in our own image male and female He created them, and God bless them to be multiply, replenish and subdue the earth, evening and morning were sixth day.

THE FALL OF ADAM AND EVE

God has created Adam and Eve a perfect to live, He gave them dominion over all the land and sea, and there was only one law given, i.e, they should not eat the fruit of the tree of good and bad.  Satan now enter and uses serpent to deceive Eve, satan use trick to deceive Eve, even though God had given Adam  and Even many things, satan make God seems to be unfair to Eve by keeping some things for them.  He (satan) is telling lie to Eve by saying they would not die.  This in effect is calling God a liar.

7 STEPS IN MAN’S FALL

1.         Devil originated doubt into the life of man (Gen 3:1)
2.         She make the God’s word less powerful, she doesn’t quote the word of God correctly as God said it (Gen 3:2 – 3)
3.         They doubt the word of God (Gen 3:3)
4.         There is contradiction and misinterpretation of word of God.  God has made man already in his own image, but devil brought civilization into the life of man while God himself is the originator of civilization; when God said in Gen 1:3 that let there be light and it was so Gen 3 – 5.
5.         She wanted to be like God (Gen 3:5)
6.         Eve transgress the law of God, she saw 3 element in the fruit, good in looking, good for eyes and good in eating. (Gen 3:5 – 6).
7.         They fell because their eyes were opened Nakedness happens to them, they cover their self with fig leaf (Gen 3:7).

3 FOLDS OF TEMPTATION (I JOHN 2:15 – 17)

Gen 3:6; Matt 4:3 – end
Fold I – Lust of the flesh – Good for food
Fold II – Lust of the eyes – Good for looking
Fold III – Pride of life – To make one wise
These are the beginning and the source of all the problems of man.

4 FOLDS OF CONSESSION

1.          I had thy voice
2.          I was afraid
3.          I was Necked
4.          I hid myself (Gen 3:10)
5.
For Adam to be afraid, come from listen to the devil.  If there is no faith in the life of man, fear in their life would bring nakedness i.e the glory of God on them hath leave them alone which make them necked.  Hidden means running away for God or someone.

SOCIAL ECONOMIC PICTURE IN THE BOOK OF GENESIS

1.         Religion apostasy – Gen 4:16
2.         Travel was instituted – Gen 4:16
3.         City building – Gen 4:17
4.         Polygamy – Gen 29:1 – end (God instituted a home)
5.         Agriculture which bring science – Gen. 2:8
6.         Music – Gen 4:21 (JUBAL was the first musician in the Bible).

ABRAHAM

We now came to one great man of God in the bible, Abraham call the friend of God and example of faith (Isa 4:8; James 2:23).  Bible does not tell us the complete life of Abraham, nothing was said in the first 75 years of his life when God called him from the city of UR of Chaldea, some long period of time go by without any event been recorded.

The Bible only tells us the only thing we needs to know to help us to understand God’s revelation of himself to man.  The story of Abraham can be found in Gen. 12 and 13 after the flood of Noah, God has people to dispatch to all over the land, but they refused to, they said there going to stay in one place and build a tower, and God brought a misunderstanding a midst them, and confound their language.  Then God find Abraham and pick him among all the people.

3 FOLD CALL

1.               CALL TO SEPARATION: He was call to separate himself from all his family, father’s house, friends and from his land.  He was call also for total separation (Gen. 12:1).
2.               HE WAS TO LEAVE HIS HOME, FAMILY AND LAND E.T.C: Abraham was call to leave his father’s household and he was call together with his wife all minister of God should take note of these that when ever been called by God, they should answer the call together with their wife.
3.               GO TO A PLACE: Before call, there is a work, there is a time one need to be anointed and there is also a time for coronation.

THE FEATURES OF ABRAHAMIC COVENANT

1.           He will be a great nation – Gen 12:2
2.           He will be bless – Gen 12:2
3.           God will make Abraham’s name great – Gen 12:2
4.           He will be a blessing i.e. he will be a source of blessing to others – Gen 12:2 – 3
5.           God will bless those who bless Abraham – Gen 12:3
6.           God will curse those who curseth Abraham – Gen 12:3

3 MAIN IMPORTANT POINTS

1.           The seed – Gen 12:3; 13:16; 15:5 – 6 Election
2.           The land – Gen 12:2 – 7; 13:15; 15:7 Blessing
3.           The Nation – Gen 12:3; 18:18; 22:18 Missionary

These are the 3 element in the call of Abraham.  God Elected his children to inherit the land of the gentile, which is the blessing to them, also God make them to be a nation in order that they may Evangelize and fulfill the plan of God.

EFFORT OF MAN TO FULFIL THE PLAN OF God

God call Abraham and his wife Sarah to bless them and through their seed the whole world through them might be blessed Gen 16:2 – 4.

1.               Lot was Nephew of Abraham and Lot’s own parent has died.  Do you think that Abraham might have thought that he will make Lot his heirs, if Sarah fails to bear children.  This is very possible, but it was not God’s plan, for very shortly Abraham was forced to separate himself from Lot Gen 13:9
2.               Abraham and Haggai, according to the custom and law, as Abraham knew it, this was not consider sinful.  Also the promise that Sarah was to bear the heirs of Abraham was not given until Ismael was born.  Gen 16:2 – 4 Yet this too shows how Sarah advice or counsel Abraham to enter with Haggai her maiden, that God might through Haggai give them child and Haggai who begat Ismael was not God’s plan.  Haggai and Ismael bring much trouble into Abraham’s tent and finally God separated them from Abraham.  The world are in problem today because of Abraham (Abraham) and Sarah’s effort for the Ismael that Haggai begot to Abraham were Muslim in the world today, though Abraham pleaded for Ismael for God that he should not die. (Gen 17:18 – 29)

H I N T S

Total will of God and permissive will of God i.e. when God is not ready and you force him, then the result would not be positive.

GOD’S PLAN

  1. This delay make God’s plan for Abraham to look impossible, because Bible recorded that both of them were old Gen. 18:11; Rom 4:9; Heb. 11:11 and the idea of this happen seems ridiculous Gen 17:17; Gen 18:12; 21:6.

  1. By commanding Abraham to sacrifice the promise child Isaac, is a supreme test of faith Gen 22:1 – 19.

  1. By searching a suitable wife for Isaac, this is a great important.  The wife needed for Isaac should not be from the people of Canaan, for God is going to bless every family of the world through Isaac Gen 24:1 – 6.

  1. By the long period of Rebecca’s bareness who has no child for 20 years and that make Abraham 160 years old when Jacob and Esau were born (Isaac was 60 years old when he gave birth to Jacob and Esau) and Abraham have 2 ground children when he died, when Abraham died, Isaac was still a sourjorner in Canaan hardly to become the possessor of the land, when Abraham died there was no evidence that his life or his child’s life has blessed any nation.

ABOUT CALL (HINTS)

There is general call and special call, there is a different in general call and special call.  Jesus call every believer to be witness.  Not every believer would be a Pastor, Evangelist, or Deacon or Teacher the call are different.  There is time of anointing and time of coronation, for example David was anointed as king, about 13 years before his coronation.

JACOB

In Abraham life we see how God has bless a man, who has been faithfully obedient and lives life of prayer (because building alter means praying) in the beginning of the child of Isaac (i.e. both of them were twins they were call Esau and Jacob, but later they call them Jacob and Esau simply because Esau has sold his birth right to Jacob Gen 25:29 – 34.  We don’t know them from their youth age, but we heard of them when they became elderly person.

MAKING BARGAIN WITH BIRTH RIGHT

The birth right is a blessing given to elder son, probably a double portion of possession of the father, in looking at the story of the obtaining birth right, we see that Esau was not interested in the blessing of the future.  He only wanted to fill his stomach since he was very hungry, but Jacob value it and he try to gain it by evil ways.  But Jacob was wrong in tricking his brother and Jacob was so courney and took away Esau’s promise, so he was punished for it for about 20 years.

BLESSING OF ISAAC

Esau was 40 years when he married two daughter of Hittites, that is Judith and Bashemath, Esau was married since 40 years when Isaac thinks that his death was near.  He decided to bless Esau secretly.  He though that Esau is going to be his heirs and he made no effort to marry for Jacob that has reach 80 years.  And this he was doing in secret (blessing of Esau) Rebecca find discovered about this bless to Esau (Gen 25:5) and she and Jacob was ale to trick the old and blind man to believe that Jacob and Esau, and when this was reveal to Isaac he believe that, that was God’s plan.  Isaac and his wife were to be blame just because of wife for not seeking for God’s will before the blessing.  Jacob is now sent away to Haran to take a wife from among the relative of Rebecca.  Jacob also flew from the wroth of Esau, Jacob is now sent away from promised land (to take a wife), Rebecca though to sent him away for a short time but Rebecca never see Jacob any more (before Jacob came back Rebecca has died).

JACOB FIRST MEETING WITH GOD

As Jacob was flowing from Beersheba, he slept his first night at a certain place now called “Bethel” there God gave him a dream, in the dream he saw a leader from heaven to earth, this is a type of Christ, the only way our prayer can ascend and God blessing descend, (NOTE IN) Jacob’s reactions, He does not than God for all marvelous promises of the future nor he seem to remember all spiritual promises, he only think of the material things; give me bread to eat, clothes to put on, and protect me.  He bargain with God by saying that if God will do this he would be serving God. (Gen 28:20).

JACOB CHANGE TO ISRAEL

In the northern country, Jacob married two wives and has eleven sons & one daughter children before coming to land of promise.  When he leaves his father in law, he does not leave peaceful also Rachel carried away some of her father’s idol.  This shows that Jacob has been living with people that are worshipping idols, in Gen 31 God commands him to return to bethel, a place he has choosing to go away for 20 years.  He must return to a place he first meet God, these have been wasted years, how much better it would have been for him.  If He had surrendered himself for God, now he cleanse his house of idol and goes up to bethel to take Abrahamic blessing Gen 35:9 – 13.

Jacob was 100 years when he came back to bethel, where God reveal himself back to him.  There we learn a lesson in the life of Jacob, who stood alone and fellowship with God because he didn’t want any disturbances.  Also God has forgiven Jacob, but he (Jacob) can remember his sin and still have condemnation of sin, when God have already forgiven him, so you too don’t covered your sin.  Then Jacob was wrestle with an Angel that was send to him to bless him because he is preparing to met Esau, but condemnation of sin prevented him to see mercy of God, we do the same thing today as a Christian.

JOSEPH A CHOSEN OF GOD (Gen 37:1 – 50; 26)

In the beginning of this man we see a young man of 17 years of age who seems to be proud of his special position in his father’s house.  On the other hands he seems to be only Jacob son who is interested in things of the Lord.  God visit him with some dreams, but when he present his dream to his brothers, he does so in a manner that make them angry, they begin to plot a way to remove Joseph from his place of favoritism in his father’s house with the 3 proposter:

  1. To slain him
  2. To cast him into a pit
  3. To sell him to Midianite or Ismael
The terrible lies that Jacob sons told him about Joseph lead him to believe that he has died, Jacob did not know that his son was alive for many years.  What so ever man sower shall he reap.

SLAVE IN EGYPT

Joseph is now taking to Egypt and sold to the captain of the guide, portifer.  The event in Gen 39 and 40 covered about 10 years, and show some of the testing Joseph pass through during those years.  In all of this trials, Joseph prove himself faithful to God and God bless and Prospered him.  Joseph was a man bought with money, so he because a redeemed who can not do as he like.

4 TIMES THAT JOSEPH WAS FAVOURED

1.           With Jacob his father (Gen 37:3)
2.           With Portifer (Gen 39:4)
3.           With Portifer’s wife (Gen 39:7)
4.           With Pharaoh (Gen 41:37 – 44).

3 TIMES THAT JOSEPH SUFFERED UNFAVOURABLE

1.           From his own brother’s (Gen 37:4 – 11)
2.           Portifer’s wife (Gen 39:14 – 18)
3.           Portifer himself (Gen 39:19 – 20).

JOSEPH TEMPTATION

The Bible says watch and pray that ye may not enter into temptation, the flesh weak keep they self, watch diligently out of it.  In Gen. 39:7 – 12 verse 9 says ‘How shall I do this and sin” we have no right to expect God to keep us off but we should voluntarily keep ourselves from temptation.  Joseph flew from his master’s wife and refused to sin against God, that is writing in II Tim. 2:22 “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart”.

Joseph made a ruler in Egypt when the time of God reach, after the Joseph has passed his examination with credit.  The ministry that puck you into anger today, will feed you tomorrow.  God elevated Joseph through the gift that made him slave Gen 40:1 – 13; Gen 41:1 – 14 Joseph suffer without sin, this man was Jesus type Matt. 27:21 – 23, later he become his brother’s saviour, he reveal himself to his brother before their father died and his brother feared him (Gen 50:15:22).

There are 70 souls in the family of Jacob who are now living in the land of Goshen, if the servant of Jacob came to Egypt they would be more, they are placed in isolated place in the land of Egypt.  God has his hand in this, for he want to make Israel a nation and they are not to inter married with the Egyptian people.

EXODUS

Exodus is from Greek word and it is from the 2 roots word –

BONDAGE IN EGYPT

Now after 430 years of coming to Egypt, God ready to delivered his people out of bondage, this is fulfillment of Gen. 15:13.

NEW ERA IN EGYPT

Things have changed in Egypt; the power of Hyksos Pharaoh has been broken and upper and lower kingdom are now united, the nation again is at the height of the military power and Egypt was now rule from the Thebes – Manphis by a new dynasty of pharaoh, the ascension of seton one probably the New king of Exodus 1:8, attention once again was focus on the fertile delta region known as Goshen.

A GREAT BUILDING PROJECT

With Pharaoh’s eyes on the fertile delta region, a great building project state, this includes a new resident of pharaoh which named after the seton successor which is Ramsees II.

SUCCESS OF THE LABOUR

They took the people of Israel as a ready made economic labour force which was residence in the area.

SYMBOL IN EXODUS

Here is the few of the symbol or picture present in Exodus.

1.           Israel in bondage to pharaoh is a picture of a soul in bondage of satan.
2.           Egypt stand for the world or kingdom of satan.
3.           The wilderness stand for on – surrendered life of Christians.
4.           Taxes master stand for demons
5.           Cannan stand for the surrender Christian life.
6.           The land of milk and honey give a picture of a soul, honesty or a soul of constant victory and delight.
7.           The pillar of cloud; fire is the picture of Holy spirit, the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night, here is a picture or type of Holy spirit send by God to give direction to his people, we must be ready to move as the children of Israel did, when the Holy spirit moves we must move.  And when it is time to move the pillar will shivers.

THE BIRTH OF MOSES

When things were at their worse for the people of Israel God prepare deliverer.  Moses parent were Levites, remember a law has been passed requiring all male Hebrew children should be killed, Moses parent did not keep this law, and they hid Moses for 3 months Exo. 2:3 – 10.
Moses means – draw out, Exo. 2:10; Ps. 18.

Mosheh – means draw out; Moses the great law giver and deliverer of Israel is mention in 813 times in the scripture, he has a sister called Mariam, 12 years old when Moses was born and a brother which is 3 years old before Moses was born (Aaron).

When Moses was 40 years old he thought his brethren will understand that God has call him to delivered them, but it was 40 years later with many miracle, before he could convince them Exo. 4:1 – 21; Exo. 5:1; Acts. 7:22 – 29.

The wasting period give time for the reminder of the last 415 years of the sojourner of Israel to be fulfil, he attempt to save his brethren Exo. 2:10 – 11.  The Egyptian might have killed the Hebrew, so Moses thought it is proper to revenge him according to the law of Gen. 9:6, but Moses was rejected.  Compare this man Moses with his brethren and Jesus and the Jews at his time.  And when the matter was revel to the king he try to slain Moses, but he flew to the land of middian, then he lives for another 40 years for the training of the leadership in wilderness.  Main time the suffering of the people increase Exo. 2:23 – 24 contain the form of the suffering, it was mother of Moses who taught him about God.  Exo. 2:7 – 9.  Moses met his wife in the land of middian Exo. 2:16 – 22 Moses journey is like that of Jacob (Gen. 29).

Fire is even a sign of the present of deity Exo. 3:2; 19:18; Deut. 4:24, the wonder is not the bush burn but the bush did not consume – God speaks to Moses and first give words of warning and explanation, then a surmon to service.  In this experience of burning bush Moses learn many things about God.

1.         WARNING:     A.  That He is a consuming fire Exo. 3:2
                                   B.   He learn something of majesty and holiness of God Exo. 3:4.

2.         EXPLANATION:  A.  He learn that God who spoke to him was the same God of (one
that was followed thy father) Abraham, Isaac and Jacob Exo. 3:6
                                         B.  He learn that God knows everything about his people No
suffering, crying, and sorrow that escape his knowledge Exo. 3:7

3.        SUMMON TO SERVICE:  Moses learnt the 3 fold work that God want to do for Israel
Exo. 3:8. 1500 years later Jesus came down and did the
Same work for all man kind, the works are:

1.                     To deliver them from the hand of Egyptian “Christ will” (according to the prophecy made to Zechariah in Lk. 1:71 – 74) “deliver us from our enemy”.
2.                     Bring them out of the land” God does not deliver us from the land of enemy and leave us in the thirsty land of bondage.  He bring us out from that land also II Cor 6:17.
3.                     To bring them into good land” – God does not just save us from the bad but he bring into the good.

EXCUSES OF MOSES

40 years before when Moses try his own power, to deliver Israel he failed now God is calling him out but is not prepare to answer, he offered 5 excuses, in each excuses God gave him is answer.

1.                 He cannot do the work Exo 3:11, the answer is Exo. 3:12.
2.                 The people would not listen to him Exo 3:13, the answer is in Exo 3:14.  God spoke to him that “I AM THAT I AM’ this is from the verb and this mean YAWEH (YHWH) that means God that strong in battle.  Sacred means initially Hebrew language has no verb.  Until it was introduced into it in the time of septuagenist.  I AM THAT I AM, God is I was who I was, I am who I am, I shall be what I shall be what I shall, all these are possibly translated into original language to described internally existing one, who was who is, and who is to come the all might God Rev. 1:8.
3.                 They would not believe Exo. 4:1 God gave him some sign
a.                 Rod turn to serpent
b.                 Leprosy hand
4.                 Slow of speech Exo. 4:10, God told him that he (God) will be with his mouth and teach him what he will say.
5.                 Send another man who can do it better than me. Exo. 4:13.

THE PLAGUES

The battle with pharaoh begins when God demand through Moses “thou says the lord of Israel let my people go” can you imagine the mighty pharaoh whom Moses a slave in such a way is talking to?  “Who is the Lord that I may listen to” I know not the Lord that I will let Israel to go Exo. 5:2.

Then Pharaoh refused to let the people of Israel go for 3 days into the wilderness.  He increase their budding, this curses them to mourning and blame Moses (Exo. 5:20 – 21).  Even Moses seems to lose faith Exo 5:22, Pharaoh does not know God and Israel does not know him well to trust in him.   God answer Moses by shows him His might power, God shows Moses 7 fold promises, each start with “I will” God shows that when Pharaoh is powerful, Him God is mighty (most powerful) Exo. 6:6 – 8).

a.                   I will bring you out from under the burden of Egypt
b.                   I will lead you out of their bondage
c.                   I will redeemed you
d.                   I will take you to me for a people
e.                   I will be to you a God and ye shall know that I am the Jehovah who brought you out.
f.                     I will bring you into the land.
g.                   I will give it to you as heritage.

We will not deal with each plagues except to say that they increase in suffering, the first 4 touches only the comfort of the people, the 5th one touches the prosperities the 6th plagues touches their person, 7th and 8th and 9th make them helpless while the 10th was the death of their first born.

PHARAOH’S COMPROMISES

Pharaoh like satan today tried to compromise but Moses refused.

1.                     Sacrifice to your God in the land Exo. 8:25; 26 i.e. be a Christian where you are, why be born again, you need not to leave Egypt (that is world) But II Cor. 6:15 – 20 and Gal. 1:4 says you must be (born again).

2.                     Only ye shall go, ye shall not go far away Exo. 8:28 i.e. that is be Christian, but not a narrow one, do not be like so and so i.e. do no go too far, but Eph. 5:11 & Matt. 10:22 – 23 says you must be.

3.                     Go now only ye that are men Exo. 10:11 that is be a Christian yourself your home is not matter, your thought and sexual should be in Egypt i.e. the world.

4.                     Go ye only let your flocks and assets be stayed Exo. 10:24 i.e. be a Christian and your business be in Egypt i.e. in the world.   But Moses refused to compromise with Pharaoh Exo. 10:26 – 29 so also Christian should not compromise with satan, sin, world and flesh.

PASSOVER (EXOD. 12:1 – 51)

This chapter is one of the great chapter in the Bible or scripture, here is instituted the Passover lambs that become the great type of Christ the lamb of God.  This chapter bring us back to the last night that people of God used in Egypt.  Pharaoh refused to let the people go but God has plan for his people.  Following are the important part in this chapter.

1.                     The blood that was sprinkled at the door post, shows that the people inside have accepted God’s way of salvation Exo. 12:1 – 3.  They were trusting in the blood.  When God sees the blood, is not their money, power, or righteousness but the blood he would Passover them, so it is with us who have accepted the blood of Jesus for it is his blood that can save us from Eternal death Col. 1:20; Rom. 3:24 – 25; I Pet 1:18 – 19.

2.                     The blood gives the Israelites assurance Exo. 12:13, it was to them a token, a sign and therefore gives them hope on God’s promise.

3.                     The Israelite were busy behind the door of their houses.  They were feasting on the lamb, they were prepare for action and ready for any act action which God might commanded, so we now are behind the door of Christ should be ready and not to sleep.  This day must be kept memorial, when they came out of the land Exo. 12:25 – 27 if Israel were to neglect the Passover, it would show the heart of ungratitude.  The Christian today’s’ celebrate the last supper in thanks given to Him that delivered them from sin.

4.                     Not that the children of Israel just obeyed God but they completely obeyed him Exo. 12:28, 35 and 50.  It was faith that lead to obedient that brought salvation to Israel.  Before concluding this important chapter, let us note some comparison with scripture in the New Testament that shows how Christ and his work were revealed in this chapter.

THE RED SEA EXO. 13:1 – 16, 31

God declare his ownership Exo. 13:1 – 16, the first born of all Egyptian has been died in the death of plagues but those of Israelites has been saved.  Now God claim the first born of his own.  They no longer be of Pharaoh, but of his (God) Exo. 13 – 12.  Along way to cannan Exo 13:12 – 18 God did not lead the Israelite to cannan directly for 2 reasons, the first one called the librated slaves.

1.         THE LIBRATED SLAVES

These people are the librated slave, they knew not of war, government, themselves and God.  They have to go through a training.  If they have gone through short way to cannan and had met the Philistines who were trained in the act of war, and prepare to fight them, they would have become discourage and return to Egypt.

2.       GOD’S PROMISED TO ABRAHAM

In God’s promise to Abraham, Israel was to be a nation that would be an example to the rest of the world, to show the world how to live for God.  Therefore the Israelite have to be trained and change from slave i.e. brick maker to a nation of God.

A STRANGE COMMAND

It was necessary for God to teach them that He & He alone can delivered them, so he gave a strange command, they were to turn south and camp behind a mountain, there a big mountain one side, and red sea in their front and on the other side, a large pit and the Egyptian at their back.

EGYPTIAN ARE PURSUING THEM

Pharaoh departing 2.5 million of Israelite he now begin to realize his lost, because these slaves have produced much labour for him, they were valuable property to him when he know they were camped between a mountain and the sea, he taught that they were now under his power, forgetting the power of God.  As Pharaoh came behind them the people shouted to God and Moses.

THE GREAT DELIVERANCE

When the people complain against Moses he told them not to fear, but to stand still and see the salvation of God.  God now work through Moses the great deliverance, and through the midst of the red sea.  The water were roll back and the people cross in the dry land, the Egyptian were not allow to see what is happening until Israelites were already crossed.  Exo. 19:11 – 20

The Pharaoh and his men saw that Israelite has cross on dry land taught they could do this also but God let the sea roll back and all Egyptian perished.  He does not pay to fight against God or God’s people.

WILDERNESS (Exod. 15:22 – 18; 18:27)

In that chapter we see that Israel education, it was necessary for God to put them through some trial or test in order to teach them some trial or test in order to teach them some things.  The following are some of the purpose of their training.

1.         To give them trials and test:  That would bring out the truth condition of their heart.  As we shall see, their heart are not right with God.

2.         To train them in God’s own way, to make them fit for living in and keeping the land of promise.

3.         To make them understand the sovereignty of God, and to bring them into a proper relationship with God.

4.         To give the Israelites an opportunity to learn of the great resources that were in God.

We might say that children of Israel were sent to school in wilderness.  They have to take many subject, or go to many schools, so let us look at some of them. (Deut. 8:2 0 10).

1.                   The school of disappointment at Marrah: Here they found the disappointing things, of fact of bitter water, see their reaction in Exo. 15:24; Mk. How did you reconcile this with Exo. 14:31, we too can be trained in the school of disappointment.
a.                          By God’s delay Jn 11:16 – 32 (delay does not mean deny) Samuel and Saul about the sacrifice – I Sam 13: 8 – 15.
b.                          By God’s method II king 5:11 – 12.
c.                          By God’s claims Mark 10:17 -22.

2.                   The school of prosperity at Elim:  The same God who trained in disappointment to test the reality of their believe in Him also leads into abundance to test our humility and our gratitude (Exo. 15:27).  Today we may be tested.
a.                  By the material Deut 8:6 – 14
b.                  By the spiritual II Cor. 12:1 – 10.
c.                   By position Dan. 4:24 – 44; John 6:14 – 15.

3.                   THE SCHOOL OF NEED IN THE WILDERNESS OF SIN (Exo. 16:1 – 22)
Here is a story of given of manner from heaven.  The Israelite have been tested in need, so they might learn how to suffer for the glory of God. Phil 4:12 in Exo. 16:3 we have their reaction.  The school of need might also test us.
a.                   By material Matt 6:29 – 34
b.                   By spiritual Ps. 42:1 – 2; Isa. 44:3
c.                   By position Lk 6:22 – 23.

4.                   The school of rest in the Wilderness of sin (Exo. 16:23 – 36)
Here Israel was thought that obedient to God was not only shown by activity, but also seasoning from effect of self; devotion not only express by serving but also by sitting in quiet worship “there remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God” Heb. 4:9.  We too we can learn how to rest such as:
a.                 From works Heb. 3:7; 4:11
b.                 In devotion Lk 10:38 – 42
c.                  From unrest (Anxiety, worry) Ps 37:1 – 7)

5.                   THE SCHOOL OF SUBMISSION AT REPHIDIM (Exo. 17:1 – 7)
There was a constant conflict or battle between the will of God and will of man, it make the school of submission necessary, the people were still not convinced that God is reigning, that he has power over all, and that faith in Him is what they need.  Submission we have to learn in God’s:

a.                     Choice of an instrument Isa 45:9 – 13

c.                     Discarding of an instrument Ps. 75:5 – 7

Israel arrived at mount Sinai after along journed of 200 miles, they arrived in the 3 months after they left Egypt, when they arrived at Sinai they stayed there for one year Num. 10:11.  The features noticeable in Sinai.

1.           The law was given at Sinai
2.           Israel enter into covenant with God
3.           Israel was officially named as a nation.

The purpose of God for Israel is to be a holy nation and a kingdom of priest unto him.  This purpose is not automatic, but all of them depends on their obedience.  Exod. 19:3 – 6.  Obedience is very important, their deliverance from the land of Egypt is not base on their righteousness, but was based absolutely on Abrahamic covenant Ps. 105:5 -12.

H I N T S

God made with Abraham – covenant, but unto Isaac – OATH, with Jacob – law.  The nation of Israel came to be when they finished the covenant at Sinai Exod. 19:8.

SIGNIFICANT OF THE SINAIC COVENANT

God called up to the mountain the representative of the people of Israel.  On the mountain they eat and make feast before the Lord, the covenant and stipulation were made:

1.         They central importance of this covenant in the life of Israel, is that its constitutions.
a.         The religion and political base on Israel society.
b.         The covenant witness the birth of Israel as a nation.

2.         Through a solemn oath, God made the Israelites to accept the over Lordship on the overall powerful God who delivered them, as a result of these Israel become:
a.         A visual of subject to God only
b.         Yaweh became the suzirite party Exod. 23:14 – 17

IMPLICATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF GOD’S LORDSHIP

1.                     Acceptance of the rule of God over his people:  This implies that it is only God who can rule over them, no other god.

2.                     Their taught of the kingdom of God both in the O.T.& N.T. originated change to theocracy (rulership of God) Earlier, early tribes rule their self, for this was change by the new acceptance, the old must give way for the new.

3.                                                                    THEOCRAZY

“Thy kingdom come, they will be done on earth”, this is an invitation to God that his rulership should come to manifestation in all our face of life.

4.                                   SYMBOL OF EARLY CULTS ARE SYMBOL OF THAT KINGSHIP

Kingdom example:  The ark is the throne

5.                     Israel must have accepted the rule of their king i.e. God, and have no dealing with any other gods.
Turning away from the truth, God is considering as Idolatry in Israel.

6.                     Israel was just set up as purely religion society.

7.                     The Sinai covenant was to be nominative of all Israel features, relationship and activity, both at national and international level.

DECALOGUE

Decalogue means the Ten Commandments, the ten commandment were spoken by God.  He spoke without intermediary or person, and this prove of it’s great importance (Matt. 3:17).  God Himself wrote this law on the tablet of stone (Exo. 24:15 – 16).  The first 4 commandment are duties of man to God, the six remaining are duties of man to man.  This is the properly order, for only those who love God can truly love their fellow man.

THE MOSAIC COVENANT

This kind of covenant is commonly known and refer to as covenant of yaweh made with Israel who has been chosen in LOVE unto redemption and adoption in Exo. 2:25 the bible says “And God look upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them”.  The covenant that was cult with redeemed people of Israel has been adopted into “FILIO’ (QIXI&) which mean relationship with God Exo. 4:2.  The significance of this covenant is that it was cult with Israel in purchase, fulfillment of this covenant can be seen, In Ps. 105:8 – 12. “He had number his covenant for ever”.  The covenant which God cult with his people of Israel was a covenant is the foundation in which the one with the descendant were cult.

The only one outstanding fact is that the Mosaic covenant was very broad in scope in the sense that it was cult with the whole Nation which can be seen not an individual but with relation to the multitude which the eyes of God has seen.  Another interesting thing about this covenant in conclusion is that at every action and dealing of God with Israel even to creation or in relation to the world at large is build in line with this mosaic covenant.  God has desire people for himself, in order to realize these.  He made a covenant with Abraham and now the mosaic covenant has pursue the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant, therefore God’s purpose for creation can come to fulfillment.

SINAIC IDOLATORY

The children of Israel had quickly fall away from God when trouble come to them Exo. 14:10 – 11, 5:24, 16:3; 17:2.  Remember that Moses made one trip to the mountain Exo. 19:3 – 6 and that time he has receive from God Ten commandment (Decalogue) and the book of covenant.  Remember that all the people cried “All that the lord has said we shall be doing” Exo.  19:8; 24:7.  Now God call Moses on the mountain again, He is gone for forty day and forty night while God instructed him on how to build the tabernacle and given additional law.  When Moses had gone for the long time the people fell away from God and they cry to Aaron to make them gods to worship.  Aaron show himself to be a fail man i.e. (He weak) for instead of rebuking them he added them in their sin.

SINAIC TABERNACLE

The God of Israel who has display his mighty, delivered his people from bondage, given them his law, now come down to dwell among his people.  He commands them to prepare a place for him to live Exo. 25:8. This tabernacle is to be built from the heavenly pattern that was reveal to Moses, and the material given by the people.  All offerings by the people were voluntary offered Exo. 25:2 – 7; 35:5 – 9; 35:29.

1.           The pattern show to Moses in Exo. 25:9 – 40 & Heb. 8:5 were described in details in
              7 chapters i.e. Exo 25:31.

2.           Nearly 5 chapters Exo. 35 – 39 are devoted to the actual work and a concluding
              summary Exo. 39:33 – 43.

3.           Then in Exo. 40 details were given regarding to the setting up of the tabernacle Exo.
40:1 – 5 followed by a detail account of the execution of the commands Exo. 40:16 -
              23.

4.           Finally, after stating for some 20 times that the guiding governing principle was “As
the lord commanded Moses” has been faithfully followed, the tabernacle is accepted,
consecrated and enveloped in the cloud that comes down as a sign that God had
entered into earthly dwelling place (Exo. 40:34).

LEVITICUS

INTRODUCTION

The author of Leviticus if Moses (Lk 24:44) this book is the most neglected book in the Bible some seems to think that is just a collection of whole Israel law and have no value for us today.  This is a very mistake view since this book, as all book s of the Bible has Christ as it’s centre, if we will just dig below the surface we shall find Christ in all the book.

DATE AND PLACE OF WRITING

This book Leviticus was writing part of the law of Moses at mount Sinai at approximately 1686 B.C. Leviticus is the book of details of work.

T H E M E

THE KEY WORD OF THE BOOK LEVITICUS OR THE MESSAGE OF THE BOOK

“The key word of the book of Leviticus is holy and it appear at least in 87 times, atonement appears 45 times and the key verse is “Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord as your God, am Holy.  (Lev. 19:2), and is the next most important word.  How can we gain access to God?  Who is to decide these questions God alone must give the answer.  This book Leviticus teaches that the redeemed people must be Holy because their redeemer is holy.

THE OFFERINGS (LEV. 1:7 – 38)

H I N T S

In Lev. 1:1 God speaks from tabernacle instead of the mountain Sinai, because he can speak behind the Vail which is kind of body of Christ.  God now instructed Moses by proceeds him in various kinds of offerings to be made by Israel.  There are five kinds of offerings that typifying Christ.  The first 3 offerings are sweet savor offering or those offering that is not for sin, demonstrate that + was accepted by God.  And two last offerings are non sweet savor offerings demonstrate that sinners are unacceptable, but that G. S Justice fell upon + as He became sinner’s substitute.  The sweet savor offering are God’s word: the non sweet are man’s word.

1.      THE BURNT OFFERING (LEV. 1:1 – 5):   Here is type of Christ who offered himself as
sacrifice without blemish, he did the will of his father to the point of death.  The burnt
sacrifice was to been done with male animal without blemish. Phi 2:8 – 9.

2.      THE MEAT OR MEAL OFFERING: This was another sweet savor offering, and it
picture the perfect person and character of it.  (Lev. 2:1 – 16).  This is a type of Christ
in human perfection tested by suffering, this is an offering of service.

3.      The peace offering (Lev. 3:1 – 17):  This is a type of Christ our peace by which he
removed the state of enmity between man and God.  This is an offering of relationship.
The last 2 offerings are unsweet savor offering a type of Christ offering himself to God
as our representative for sin.  The priest and sinner will eat out of it together, is offering
         of consolation.

 4.      The sin offering (Lev. 4:1 – 35): This is a type of Christ offering himself in the place of
sinners, for sin, in the sinner’s nature.  This offering represents victory over sin.  This
offering is not a sweet savor offering, stand in contrast with burnt offering.  The burnt
offering was all for God, the sin offering was all for man.

5.        The trespass offering (Lev. 5:1 – 6 – 7).  This is a type of Christ offering himself for
sinners, for sinner’s specific act of sin.  This represent salvation from sin.  The sin
offering dealt with the rooth and trespass offering with fruit.  Is a sign that the guilt of
           sin has been taken away.

THE PRIESTHOOD LEV 8:1 – 10:20

In reading Lev. 8:1 – 9/23 as a whole we fund out the redeemed need the priest to represent them before God in order to be accepted.  It is the priest who takes the blood and present it to the Lord.

This bring us to Hebrew in the New Testament where Christ is reveal as our high priest Heb. 8:12; Heb. 9:8; 11, 12 & 24 also I Tim. 2:5.  The main function of priesthood was to maintain God’s people in their relationship to God, which their sacrifice had brought them.

THEIR DUTY IN 3 FOLD

1.        To make atonement for the sins of the people by sacrifice Lev. 8:1 – 7.

2.        To bless the people in the name of the Lord Lev. 9:22.

3.        To teach the people the will of God and enforce the law which he had laid down
            their observance as a Holy people Lev. 10:11; Deut. 31:9 – 13.

NADAB AND ABIHU

In Lev. 9:24 we see fire coming from the Lord and consuming the sacrifice place on alter by Aaron and his sons.  In Lev. 10:2 we see the same fire coming out from the Lord, destroyed Nadab and Abihu the son of Aaron who has offered the strange fire before the Lord; they had burn their incense with strange firer, in other words, with fire that was not taking from the alter of burnt sacrifice which God had kindled.  We can learn something of God in this passage:

1.       Divine grace accepted that which was offered in accordance with the law of God Lev.
          9:24.

2.       Divine Holiness rejected that which was offered by man’s corruption Lev. 10:1 – 2.

3.        The same fire which accept an offering as a sweet odour, reject a corrupted offering
            as an abomination.

4.        The story of Nadab and Abihu demonstrate absolute Holiness of the Lord.  In finishing
with this section we take note of three facts concerning these priest that are useful for
           us today.

i.          He must minister above all natural claim and outside influence Lev. 10:6 – 7.  Aaron
and two remaining son were not allowed to mourn against their brother that were lose
            Mk. 10:29 – 31; Lk 9:62.

ii.         He must  remain separated from anything that would hinder his ability to know and to
communicate the mind of God Le. 10:8 – 11; Rom 12:2 and I.

iii.        The failure of other should not be permitted to rubs our privilege in God Lev. 10:12 –
            20.

THE LAW OF PURITY LEV. 11:1 – 17:16

These chapters gives details instruction to the people of God about or regarding their purity.  In purity of any kind would cut them off from the sanctuary.  God’s children were expected to have:

3.      Purer home Lev. 14:33 – 57

Constant                          result to the blood, Lev. 16:1 – 34. Chapter 16 is the great atonement in the Bible chapel.

THE CITIES OF REFUGE

Six cities were appointed in Israel as cities of refuges:  Three on the east side of Jordan and three on the west Deut.  4:41, and chapter 19.  It may be that Heb. 6:18 refers to this procedure.  Highways led to the cities and the gates were always open.  Jewish Tradition says that sings with the word “refuge” were heavens for those who committed murder unintentionally or through ignorance.  Whenever that happened in Middle Eastern Countries, an avenger would soon be on the track of that man.

The cities of refuge were evenly place throughout the land.  Therefore, if a slayer should crossed the threshold there he was safe.  The avenger might brandish his sword at the gate, but he could not get in.  The offender was tried by judges inside the city.  Like wise, the believing sinner will not be tried by the world.  We are Judged in the courts of heaven.

The one who fled for refuge was allowed to stay until the death of the high priest.  We have a High Priest who lives forever, therefore, we are eternally safe.  The avenger can never lay his threatening sword upon us.

THE DEATH OF MOSES

The last chapter of Deuteronomy records the death of Moses.  This man was a prince in Egypt for 40 years, a shepherd in the desert for 40 years and the leader of Israel for 40 years.

Did he make mistake? Yes, but how faithfully he directed Israel!   In his death we see striking similarities to the death and resurrection of our Lord.  Except that he was kept from entering the promised Land because of his act of disobedience.
